Studio Dragon has proven its production competitiveness by consecutively delivering major hit dramas across both TV and OTT platforms in the first half of this year.
Studio Dragon began the year with tvN’s ‘Undercover Miss Hong’ and KBS’s ‘To My Beloved Thief’ in January, followed by tvN’s ‘Filing for Love’ in April, and SBS’s ‘My Royal Nemesis’, produced by its subsidiary GIL Pictures, in May, successfully continuing its hit streak across diverse TV broadcast series. In addition, through the OTT platform TVING, the company also achieved consecutive hits with ‘Yumi’s Cells Season 3’ in April and ‘The Legend of Kitchen Soldier’ in May, receiving enthusiastic responses from drama fans.
‘Undercover Miss Hong’, which concluded in March, recorded a peak viewership rating of 13.9% during its broadcast and reached as high as No. 4 on Netflix’s official Global Top 10 Non-English TV Shows chart, creating a global sensation. ‘To My Beloved Thief’, which concluded in February, recorded the highest buzz index among KBS 2TV dramas aired since 2024 according to FUNdex. The momentum of recent works that followed has also been strong. ‘Filing for Love’, which concluded last week, ended its run with a peak rating of 10.8%, while ‘My Royal Nemesis’, currently airing, surpassed a peak rating of 13.7% and continues to firmly maintain its position in the Top 1–3 ranks of Netflix’s Global Top 10 Non-English TV Shows chart.
In particular, notable achievements that redefined the success history of TVING original content are drawing attention. ‘Yumi’s Cells Season 3’ followed Season 2’s 88% increase in paid subscriber contribution index compared to Season 1, and further increased paid subscribers by 73% compared to Season 2, earning evaluation as a “well-rounded and satisfying series conclusion.” ‘The Legend of Kitchen Soldier’, currently available, was also ranked as the TVING original drama with the highest number of paid subscriber acquisitions during its first week of release over the past three years, and has maintained No. 1 in paid subscriber contribution for three consecutive weeks. The series also recorded a peak viewership rating of 10.8% despite being programmed in tvN’s Monday–Tuesday drama slot, receiving an explosive response.
Studio Dragon’s global market performance is also highly notable. ‘Filing for Love’ continues to rank No. 1 in the drama category on U-NEXT in Japan. On Rakuten Viki, which is available in 103 countries including the United States, Brazil, France, Australia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the series has ranked No. 1 in viewership for three consecutive weeks. It also ranked No. 1 in the Asian content category on IVI, Russia’s largest OTT platform, further proving its global phenomenon status. Another hit title, ‘The Legend of Kitchen Soldier’, ranked No. 2 on Disney+ Japan, and continues to maintain a Top 5 ranking across the Americas, Europe, Oceania, and the Middle East via Rakuten Viki. It also ranked No. 2 on IVI, following ‘Filing for Love’, continuing its strong regional popularity. In particular, on HBO Max across 17 Asia-Pacific countries and regions, ‘Yumi’s Cells Season 3’, ‘Filing for Love’, and ‘The Legend of Kitchen Soldier’ simultaneously ranked within the Top 3.
A Studio Dragon representative stated, “In the first half of the year, the lineup included a variety of genres and settings such as historical drama (‘To My Beloved Thief’), 1990s period drama (‘Undercover Miss Hong’), and contemporary dramas. It also included office dramas (‘Undercover Miss Hong’, ‘Filing for Love’), time-slip genres (‘My Royal Nemesis’), and webtoon-based dramas (‘Yumi’s Cells’, ‘The Legend of Kitchen Soldier’). In the second half of the year, major works such as tvN’s ‘100 Days of Lies’ (Working Title) and Netflix’s ‘Slowly and Intensely’ (Working Title) are scheduled to meet viewers.”
