(09-DEC-2020) Two drama series produced by Studio Dragon (CEOs CK. Kang and Kim Young-kyu) have won awards at the AACA (Asian Academy Creative Awards) 2020 held in Singapore.
AACA is Asia’s largest media awards ceremony held at the end of every year in Singapore to look back on and celebrate Asia’s media content industry over the past year. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s ceremony was carried out online, during which Studio Dragon’s drama series, Crash Landing on You and The Cursed won the Best Drama Series award and the Best Original Screenplay award respectively.
Crash Landing on You (written by Park Ji-eun, directed by Lee Jung-hyo, produced by Studio Dragon and Culture Depot) aired on tvN toward the end of last year and was streamed across 190 countries over the world, creating a worldwide craze. The show also won the Special Award for Foreign Drama at the Tokyo Drama Awards last month.
The Cursed (written by Yeon Sang-ho, directed by Kim Yong-wan, produced by Studio Dragon and Lezhin Studio), which aired on tvN at the beginning of this year, was the very first drama series written by Yeon Sang-ho, the director of the movie, Train to Busan. With its artistic quality recognized throughout the world, the series was nominated for the International Panorama category at the French awards ceremony, Series Mania, and was invited to the screening event of Serielizados Fest Barcelona last October.
Upon receiving the award, Lee Jung-hyo, who directed Crash Landing on You, commented, “I did not expect that so many people all over the world would react so enthusiastically to our show. I couldn’t be happier that so many people enjoyed watching the show just as much as I enjoyed directing it. I’d like to thank and share this honor with everyone who worked so hard on the show.”
Yeon Sang-ho, who wrote The Cursed, commented, “Since this was my first attempt at writing for a drama series, receiving this award is a huge honor. I hope that the pandemic will end soon so that I can attend this wonderful festival in person next year.”
